HEAVY METAL DETOX FOR BEGINNERS

Heavy metals such as mercury and lead are becoming a major health concern. Environmental pollution is a large contributor to the issue and other sources of heavy metals include cars, paint, cookware, medicines, environmental chemicals and food.
Some symptoms of accumulating heavy metals in the body can be:

  • Headaches
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Aching joints and muscles
  • Depression, irritability & anxiety
  • Digestive issues
  • Female reproductive issues
  • Kidney, central nervous system and neuron damage
  • Constipation

Fortunately there are many things you could do to reduce your body load of heavy metals. It is essential to do a number of these things consistently to avoid heavy metal build up over time.

Avoid foods known to contain heavy metals or make sure that you buy them from a trusted source:

  • Non-organic food
  • Brown rice
  • Fish
  • Alcohol

Cleanse your body gently every day to keep those levels down. Our favourite tools for heavy metal cleansing are:

Fibre

Fibre, such as oat bran and apple pectin, will bind to metals and help draw them out of the body. Red beet root fibre is high in proanthocyanidins and antioxidants and facilitates clearance of metals through the liver.

Malic Acid

Another chelator is malic acid. It is found in fresh apples and apple cider vinegar and is particularly useful in removing aluminium from the body.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are another great source of fibre to assist the digestive system in moving toxins out, but are also high in Omega 3 which is important for the detoxification process.

Coriander

Studies indicate that fresh coriander may be extremely effective in helping flush heavy metals out of the blood. Taking a quarter cup of tightly-packed fresh coriander leaves and stems a day can effectively remove heavy metals from the body in just 2-3 weeks according to Dr. David Williams. Due to the high amounts of heavy metal that this amount of coriander can expel, it is also recommended to take 1 tablespoon of zeolite powder to absorb the metals and ensure they don’t go back into the body via the colon.

Coriander a.k.a. cilantro stimulates the body’s release of mercury and other heavy metals from the brain and CNS (central nervous system) into other tissue.

This facilitates the ability to remove heavy metal from the body while using other dietary protocols, such as chlorella and other chlorophyll containing herbs such as spirulina, wheatgrass and barley grass powder. These herbs aid in detoxifying by denaturing the toxins, protecting and restoring normal cellular functions while promoting elimination.

Chlorella

Chlorella has been called the perfect whole food.
Aside from containing:

  • complete protein
  • all the B vitamins
  • vitamin C
  • vitamin E
  • the major minerals (with zinc and iron in amounts large enough to be considered supplementary)

It has also been found to:

  • improve the immune system
  • improve digestion
  • detoxify the body
  • accelerate healing
  • protect against radiation
  • aid in the prevention of degenerative diseases
  • help in the treatment of Candida
  • relieve arthritis pain
  • due to its nutritional content, chlorella aids in the success of numerous weight loss programs

Chlorella is also an all-purpose, mild chelator of heavy metals.

Some “sciencey” stuff about chlorella

The detoxification capability of chlorella is due to its unique cell wall and the material associated with it.

The cell walls of chlorella have been shown to be made up of three layers of which the thicker middle layer contains cellulose microfibrils. Atkinson et al. found a 14 nm thick trilaminar layer outside the cell wall proper which was extremely resistant to breakage and thought to be composed of a polymerised carotene like material. Laboratory studies showed that there were two active absorbing substances — sporopollenin (a naturally occurring carotene like polymer which is resistant to degradation) and the algae cell walls.

Because these cell walls are so resistant to breakage you also want to make sure that you buy chlorella with a cracked or broken cell wall otherwise our digestive systems cannot break it down to retrieve the nutritional gold mine inside.

Chlorella is the richest source of chlorophyll on planet Earth. There’s nothing more cleansing and detoxifying than chlorophyll. It contains Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF), which offers many health benefits, including:

  • boosts the immune system
  • reverses cancer
  • helps repair nerve tissues throughout the body
  • excellent for treating degenerative brain and nerve disorders

Coriander

MSM

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), like fresh garlic, provides a bioavailable dietary source of sulphur.

Sulphur

Lead, mercury and cadmium steal sulphur from important proteins, which could be enzymes, hormones, or cell receptors. Conversely, sulphur is needed in the liver detox pathway to hook onto these metals and clear them from the body.

This means lead, mercury and cadmium depletes sulphur, the very nutrient needed to detox the metal overload. A depletion of sulphur will also adversely affect joint connective tissue growth, since sulphur is an essential precursor to the building blocks of cartilage.

Good food sources are:

  • egg yolks
  • garlic
  • kelp
  • kale
  • turnip
  • raspberries
  • onions
  • cabbage
  • mustard greens

Sweating

You can initiate sweating and increased circulation by doing the following routine:
Exercise 20 minutes three times a day on a rebounder (mini trampoline)
Immediately following the exercise, sit in a sauna or under infrared lights (infrared sauna) for up to 30 minutes. The temperature from a “low heat” sauna should be between 60 and 82 °C / 140 to 180 °F.
Then take a cool shower. It’s important to shower and towel dry because the removal of sweat prevents reabsorption of toxins.
While doing the sauna program, consume adequate amounts of water to avoid dehydration. This is a minimum of two liters / two quarts before and after entering the sauna. Replace your electrolytes lost to perspiration with vegetable juices.

Conclusion

If left unchecked, one can accumulate heavy metals in the body which can lead to a number of unhealthy conditions which can vary from person to person. These conditions can become gradually worse so that eventually you just don’t feel like your fine, vibrant self.
By adopting a few of these practices, avoiding foods known to contain heavy metals and including the cleansing foods mentioned, you can detox yourself daily and help your body stay in optimal health so that you feel like your authentic self and live your best life.
